Quick Review

The Mazda 3 has always been one of the sharpest looking hatchbacks. This is definitely a youthful car, with a sleek nose and a great look. The new 2012 edition could see the introduction of a lot of upgrades and changes, but the Mazda’s attractive styling remains intact. Any new updates are found under the bonnet; there’s a new range of Skyactiv-G engines, a new transmissions and softer springs; all adding up to make the Mazda 3 feel a little nippier and lighter than last year’s model.

On the road, the electro-hydraulic power steering makes the Mazda 3 one of the best handling compact cars out there. The Ford Focus 2012 might be able to rival the Mazda when it comes to agility, but Mazda provides stiff competition overall. This model is not only well produced, but even rivals lower-end sports cars for overall control and agility.

For a family hatchback, the lack of room in the rear seat and the boot might prove a bit of a drawback. Passengers might struggle a little on longer journeys and the boot won’t take much more than a few shopping bags at once. But if you’re looking for a fun, reliable car to get you around town or to drive solo, this is a great bet. The Mazda 3 is widely respected for having a high-quality, high-grade build, while the price-tag is reassuringly low. It might not outmatch some of the more expensive compacts in its segment, but the Mazda 3 is a fun, stylish bargain.
