Such has the euphoria stirred up around its launch that the marque garnered a stonking 88,898 pre-orders for this futuristic electric saloon in just 24 hours after curtains were drawn away in its home market. Further bolstering the frenzy, were customer experience drives organized at 59 retail outlets in 29 cities of China.

Affordable Pricing Strategy: Xiaomi's Competitive Edge

Shelling out a diminutive sum of money is never frowned upon by people. Understanding this propensity of consumer behavior, Xiaomi fixed the booking amount for an SU7 at just 5000 Yuan (AED 2,537.25 as per current exchange rate), further scaffolding interest and bookings. 

Manufacturing and Production Plans for SU7

It’s observed that the production of a mass-scale vehicle requires a cavernous manufacturing facility. Hence, the company has secured a license to manufacture units of the SU7 and relegated this job to a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. (BAIC), BAIC Off-road Vehicle Co. to create cars at its Beijing plant. For those unaware of the brand, BAIC retails a tasteful variety of SUVs in the UAE with each model launched to cater to specific tastes of consumers.

The alacrity and commitment of Xiaomi in erecting a plant is revealed by the fact that the foundation stone was laid in April 2022 and the facility was ready to commence operation by June 2023. However, the company hasn’t utilized the scale of its plants optimally and looks at ramping up production in a phased manner. It targets churning out 100,000 vehicles from its plant by the fall of 2024 which has the potential of creating 150,000 vehicles annually in the first stage. The company looks to further augment production to 300,000 vehicles annually in the second phase.

SU7's Powerful Performance and Luxurious Interior

It’s interesting to note that the base-spec SU7 commanding a price-tag of 215,900 yuan (AED 109,556.39 as per current exchange rate) is exactly at cost. This is done to penetrate the market with a bang and woo a large chunk of customers in the brand’s favour in the nascent phase itself. Pacifying product attributes associated with an aggressive price tag is an ideal tried and tested recipe to achieve success.

Opting for the version loaded with all gismos and nannies gets all-wheel drive syntax and dual-motor setup, one on each axle that can together emanate 645-hp while also allowing the occupants to enjoy the drive to 497 miles (800 Km) on a single full charge. Such astounding power and range figures have been sponsored by a 101 kWh battery. 

Market Impact: How SU7 Stacks Up Against Competitors

The car isn’t just about promising mechanicals, price or looks. From what is revealed, its interior is equally scrumptious with fine details strewn over the cabin. The dual-tone gray and white theme radiates elegance while the centre console having an enormous screen mounted for all controls gives away a minimalistic vibe.

The dearth of buttons allows for a bevy of storage spaces inside the car. On the hind section of the front captain seats, are entertainment screens on both sides for passenger engagement. It’s yet to be known about the features that would make it to the UAE but we can expect a comprehensive list of goodies such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, panoramic glass view, ambient lighting, drive modes, voice command, and a host of active and passive safety features. 

At the price point this model can be introduced in the UAE, the car won’t just give an extremely fierce fight to other rivals in this segment, but can even make cars which are segments higher, feel coy for the price they command. Xiaomi has had a dream run in the consumer electronics market for quite some time, but will its brand value transpire into prolific results in the automobile domain?
