There is something truly enigmatic and wonderfully-delectable about a two-door, two-seat sports car, but few companies can vouch for this fact as well as Jaguar. After all, one of the most tasteful and wildly successful car designs of all time came from the British marque in 1961. This was the year when the world got to lay its eyes on the breathtakingly beautiful Jaguar E-Type, which had a great run till 1975. After that, almost four decades had gone by and the world needed yet another stunner. As expected, Jaguar was only too happy to oblige.
In 2013, the E-Type finally met its spiritual successor in the form of the Jaguar F-Type. Just like the E-Type, the F-Type too was available as a coupe and convertible. The Jaguar F-Type’s architecture was based on JLR’s new D6-series platform and was thus pretty light. Over half a decade after its launch, the F-Type hasn’t seen any radical changes, save for some minor ones to keep it fresh. In the UAE, the 2019 Jaguar F-Type Coupe rivals the Porsche 718 Cayman, Chevrolet Corvette, Infiniti Q60 Coupe, and Maseratin GranTurismo.
As is evident, the Jaguar F-Type draws a lot of inspiration from its distant ancestor. And it doesn’t take too long to appreciate this coupe’s sensational design and beautiful form-factor. The front is not just pretty but also looks mean with its pulled-back HID headlights with Jaguar’s signature LED DRLs, long yet muscular hood, and a sporty bumper with a dual-split grille, massive air intakes, and sharp front spoiler to channel air flow.
The stunning side silhouette of the F-Type not just looks mesmerizing, but its low, confident stance gives it a great sense of poise. This is complemented by the addition of side skirts, curvaceous fenders, huge 20-inch rims, flush door handles, sporty side vents, and a steeply-sloped roof. The ultra-sporty rear of the F-Type SVR features a large fixed wing, effortlessly-elegant LED taillights, and a beefy bumper with quad exhausts and a serious air diffuser. The Jaguar F-Type Coupe stands 4.482 meters long, 1.923 meters wide, 1.311 meters tall, and its wheelbase stretches 2.622 meters. Its overall trunk capacity of 407 liters isn’t special, but it’ll do.
The interior of the Jaguar F-Type, though beautiful, is nowhere near as exceptional as its exterior. The design is stylish and feels modern enough, but lacks the pure emotion that you might expect. That said, this cabin feels exceptionally well done and the quality of the leather, metal surfaces, and various other trim pieces feel great. Being a strict two-seater, space up front is reasonable and the seats are fairly comfortable, too.
Part of the F-Type’s features catalogue is radar cruise control, adaptive headlights, adaptive suspension, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, sports exhaust, dual-zone climate control, paddle shifters, power-operated, ventilated and heated seats, ambient lighting, a Meridian sound system, and a touch-infotainment display with navigation. Some of the F-Type’s safety tech includes a plethora of airbags plus several electronic nannies such as traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes, collision detection, and a surround camera system.
Engine and performance
The very wild and loud F-Type SVR gets a 572-horsepower, 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with 700 Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic tranny sends the engine’s grunt via an AWD system, thus resulting in a fantastic 0-100 km/h figure of 3.7 seconds and a mental top speed of 322 km/h.
The 2019 Jaguar F-Type Coupe costs AED 245,800 for the base trim with the four-popper motor, AED 386,300 for the full-option V6 variant with 377 hp, and AED 617,900 for the fire-spitting SVR variant. Meanwhile, cost of insurance, depending on the trim and engine option, can range from AED 3,831 to AED 9,631.
