The 2019 Hyundai Accent is the most affordable sedan sold by the South Korean carmaker in the UAE. Over the years, the Hyundai Accent has massively risen in popularity, and since the launch of its fourth-generation model in 2011, it has gone on to become one of the best-selling B-segment sedans in the region. With prices starting at just 48,500 Dirhams, the new Hyundai Accent easily undercuts a vast majority of its competition, save for the Nissan Sunny which costs almost the same. Interestingly, this fifth generation of the Accent also shares its underpinnings with the all-new Kona crossover. When it was updated a year ago, the Hyundai Accent grew in size, thus making it an even better proposition than before.

Whereas some countries also get it in a hatchback and station wagon forms, the 2019 Hyundai Accent in the UAE is only sold as a regular four-door sedan. There are, however, three variants of the new Accent to choose from, with the 1.4L Base trim being the cheapest at just AED 48,500. Meanwhile, there’s also the 1.6L Base variant that costs AED 49,900, which is identical to the former, except for its more powerful engine. And finally, the fully-loaded Accent with the 1.6-liter engine comes in at AED 59,900, and tacks on many more bells & whistles. As for the engines themselves, the motor in the base model is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder unit that churns out 100 hp and 132 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.6-liter unit provides a little more grunt with its higher output of 123 hp and 151 Nm of peak torque. Irrespective of which engine you choose, a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard across the range. As for their performance numbers, the Accent 1.4 gets to 100 km/h in 13.4 seconds and its top speed is 183 km/h. On the other hand, the larger motor increases the top speed to 193 km/h, and brings down the time required to accelerate to the ton-mark to 11.3 seconds. However, there’s no real difference between the two when it comes to fuel consumption.

As I mentioned earlier, the 2019 Hyundai Accent is also a far better looking car. Featuring the brand’s latest design language, the most notable styling upgrades include a “cascading grille” design, that’s flanked by projector headlights with their distinctive L-shaped LED daytime-runners, and a more aggressive sculpted bumper. The side profile remains more or less the same, except for the new design of 16-inch alloy wheels and some different sheet metal. Changes at the back are more discernible, with its new partial-LED taillights, a restyled trunk, and a sportier bumper with some plastic lower garnish. The interior has also been given a thorough overhaul and now looks more upscale in its layout and design. Hyundai has also improved the material quality and cabin insulation, while the overall build and fit-and-finish remain strong as ever. Though there’s an abundance of scratchy, low-rent materials in this interior, it’s not blasphemous considering the Accent’s price point.

Hyundai has also improved the new Accent’s safety by including rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, hill assist, ISOFIX anchor points, traction control, and electronic stability program as standard on all variants. The top trim further adds an additional four airbags, bringing the total number to six. Of course, you also get the ubiquitous anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and emergency braking assist (EBA). You can also get the 2019 Hyundai Accent with a power sunroof, keyless-entry with push-button ignition, cruise control, automatic climate control with rear air-con vents, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, reversing camera, plus a touchscreen infotainment head unit with Bluetooth connectivity and four speakers.
