So what is it?

Lincoln is one of those brands in the GCC that not many think of at first when buying the car. It is mostly because the parent company Ford has swooped up most of its market share and frankly there is no room left for American luxury in this market. Even if there is that little piece of the pie left, it has been eaten by Cadillac. So, Lincoln is trying to increase its piece of the pie by concentrating more on its design. One such example is the MKX.

You can think of the Lincoln MKX as the cousin of the Ford Edge. Actually, make it a distant cousin because it doesn’t look at all like the Ford Edge. It looks like Lincoln have taken apart the Edge pieces and replaced them with their own to reshape the design and look of the car. Inside, the story continues as well. The interior materials are totally different and even though the layout is pretty much the same as the Ford, only the Sync infotainment is carried out from the Ford Edge.  The MKX is powered by a rather small 2.7 liter V6 EcoBoost engine producing 330 BHP and 500 Nm of torque.

Key Features:
Engine 2.7 litre V6 - 330 BHP / 500 Nm
Transmission 6-Speed Automatic
Price AED 175,000 to AED 255,000

How is it?

For starters, it is super quiet. There is almost haunting silence in the cabin. The gearbox is missing and instead there are buttons for the gears on the dash. This will take some time in getting used to. Other than that, there is leather almost everywhere and the car has ample soft padding to keep you cushioned in. The interior is roomy and easily fits 5 adults. Coming to the drive itself, it is fun to say the least. You won’t initially believe that a 2.7 liter engine can be fun but somehow the EcoBoost magic swoops you in and the turbo kicking makes the car alive. Although there is hardly any steering feedback, you fairly know what the car is doing. Add to that grippy tires and AWD and you have a fun crossover overall.

Is it worth it?

Well, this is a tough one. The entry variant powered by the regular 3.7l V6 starts at AED 175k and that is still manageable but this 2.7l turbocharged variant could go up till AED 250k. It is by no means a bad car but the pricing coupled with the brand value in this market could go against it. But like I always say, try it before you buy it.
