The Lincoln Navigator, is ford’s luxury arm, Lincoln Motor Company’s gem in its artillery for warfare against other segment stalwarts such as the Lexus LX, Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX80, Audi Q7, BMW X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS. Since its introduction in late 2018 as a model that parted ways with Ford Expedition in terms of design and feature similarities, the second generation model has received a facelift for 2023. The car builds on the brawny street presence, almost yacht-like interior experience and the enormous grunt which its forebear reserved. It comes with several feature add-ons and clever technology that might have strength to clinch the overall proposition as a deal-maker.

For starters, the new Navigator receives a mildly updated front fascia with a new family grille that extends to the bumper, fog lamp portion with crystal inserts and headlamps with a kink at the bottom informing it’s the facelift model. These Adaptive Pixel Projector Headlamps alter the range of light area depending on the speed. At high speeds, the system possesses a resplendent quality to illuminate a distant road, while at slower speeds, it spreads across a smaller but wider area to take notice of the objects in the milieu. Navigator is about everything and attention to detail. The 3D tail lamps illuminate in a pattern lighting up from centre to the width extremes while unlocking the car and in the opposite direction toward the centre after locking it.

Depending on the trim you choose, the car will welcome you with two novel interior themes in addition to Chalet and Yacht club. These trims are basically, different hue options that wrap the dashboard inspiring lively atmosphere inside the cabin. Central Park refers to the effect created by open-pore dark walnut that portrays lasered scenery of the routes in US’ famed urban park. Invitation trim goes several notches further to resemble laser-etching open-pore Khaya veneer. It is also an industry-first.

The vibe of the car is aggrandised, not just by the use of sumptuous materials, but even by technology. These incorporate Ford and Lincoln’s extremely responsive and touted, SYNC 4 infotainment system which is advanced enough to perceive individual voices. It can be used to go through navigation that is accessed via a larger 13.2-inch infotainment system. The car is also home to a 12” head-up display that tailors information to one’s requirement so that the driver can cruise comfortably in an assiduous demeanour without having to move his eyes off the road.

A salient feature of the new Navigator is the seats. The front seats are adjustable in 30 different ways to have the best driving position. Further, there is massaging available should the honcho occasionally get behind the wheel of this yacht on wheels. Second-row passengers can also relish the 5.8-inch digital module that allows them to twiddle the functions of seat positioning, climate adjustment and audio. Where other cars only offer front-seat ventilation, the Navigator goes one up on its rivals by offering rear-seat ventilation. The rear can also be had with Active Motion massage seats, a first in segment feature that keeps one extremely cossetted at the back.

While gazing through the views of Dubai’s enchanting skyline, one can also savour some of the finest acoustics powered by Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) that provides a soothing experience in the lap of luxury. DSO recorded a medley of 6 unique chimes, exclusively for the car. The sound reverberates better through Revel Ultima 3D audio system where 28 speakers work in tandem to deliver a pure, enriching and impactful sound.

The car maybe compared against a yacht in the luxury sense, but is no less than a rocket in terms of performance. It draws power from a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine that churns out 440 hp and an awe-inspiring 691 Nm of torque! The grunt is complemented with civilised road manners through an Adaptive Suspension which adjusts the suspension setup according to the tarmac. Even more interesting is the Road Preview feature that utilises 12 sensors elucidating a forward-facing camera, body movement scanner, vehicle motion, steering, acceleration and braking, 500 times per second to make changes to the suspension 100 times every second to provide a driving experience that is extremely sublime.

Other active safety features to elicit are Intersection Assist, that uses a conjuncts camera and radar to keep the driver vigilant while attempting a left turn between the incoming traffic and before the driver could sense collision, the car itself would’ve applied the brakes proactively. In certain trim levels, a very nifty feature and one that is likely to come handy is Active Park Assist 2.0, which helps the driver park the car perfectly in a space by taking charge of the steering, gearshifts, brakes and acceleration. This feature can be used for both, parallel and perpendicular parking. Similarly, another feature called Park Out Assist is concomitant while exiting a parallel parking space.

The car is replete with such active and passive safety features and Forward Collision Warning, Post Collision Braking, Distance Alert, Dynamic Brake Support, Pedestrian Detection, Auto Hold, Hill Start/Descent Assist, Automatic Headlamps and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The new Navigator promises a lot this time around and with the revisions made, it makes for a tempting package. With certain features that an exiguous variety of cars in this segment offer, the comfort which witnesses a major step-up and a refined and robust powertrain, it has the potential to give its German competition a run for their money.
