The Swedish company, Polestar is goading headlines in the news very often especially after its divorce with the Volvo brand. It stunned the world with its first two offerings in the footprint of a coupe, The Polestar 1 which was followed by a sedan with SUV smothering ground clearance, the Polestar 2.

While those cars played their role in attracting attention towards the brand posing impending threat on other cars in their segments with a striking stance, bucket-loads of features, performance galore right from the word ‘go’ and above all, safety following its founding company’s mantra, the third instalment is here which will not only substantiate the above mentioned characteristics, but is also expected to drive volumes much more than those. As expected, it’s an SUV, but very proficient at that, to shrill the roots of its rivals, which have cemented their position in the market.

Eponymously, it’s called the Polestar 3, where in almost all probability, the ‘3’ could stand for the brand’s third instalment. This product is a performance electric SUV which will break cover in October this year. A significant model for the Swedish company, its launch will foray the brand in one of the most rewarding segments where some players have tenaciously built their positions. For the company, it is going to be a high margin segment which could be extremely prolific to the brand’s growth prospects, especially in the United States as the region is awash with opportunities in this realm.

On the face of it, the Polestar 3 reminisces Volvo cars when glanced at from the front, with the signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED lamps and a furrow-like grille which to a certain extent, mimics a Volvo. It wouldn’t do justice to the design of an SUV, without a beefy persona. Hence, the car also flanks a massive skid plate and a hood which flows in a drooping fashion.

The midriff sports a slightly tapering silhouette neatly amalgamated with the hind portion of the car. Reverberating a design bit of several other models, it also features flush door handles which somewhat make it more efficient dynamically. Other bits include huge fenders and 4-spoke alloy wheels which add to its pizzazz.

It looks equally exhilarating from the rear where the hallmarks include a stubby glass area followed by tail lamps which create an impression of extending beyond the width of the car. The LED light bar also conveys a conventional rectangular tail lamp as it slightly curves from the horizontal orientation. A humongous wheel section further lifts its appeal. All in all, it’s a car that draws eyeballs towards itself.

The car will be complemented with some new-age features such as LiDAR sensor from Luminar to parade the car’s movement along an expressway and avoid high-speed collisions when the driver loses control or attention.

Initially, the Polestar 3 will only be available in a single state of tune- a dual-motor setup which will receive its grunt from a battery enough for the brand to claim a range of 600 Km, according to the WLTP cycle. Contemporaneously with the event of covers being taken off the car, it will be launched in initial markets as planned before it is made available across the globe. Assembly of the vehicle will happen in the United States and China with production set to commence in the first-half of next year.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO remarks: “Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age. Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character. With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.” He also said that the debut of the Polestar 3 will be extremely significant for the brand as they transition into the coming era.

The future of Polestar brand appears to be embellished with sheen as the brand confirms it will be launching three new models in the leash and the Polestar 3 will spearhead the process. Through product introductions, the brand will echo its availability in 30 markets by the fall of 2023 so as to rise ten-fold to a contemplated, 290,000 units of sales by the end of 2025 from a respectable, 29,000 in 2021.
