The Ford Motor Company has produced a lot of popular and widely loved cars, spanning vehicles from all across the spectrum – right from the famed Model T to the fabulous Mustang. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that the so-called Blue Oval knows what it’s doing when it comes to its automobiles. Of course, being such a massive American auto marque, it’s only but natural that Ford makes some of the most beloved pickup trucks in the world. Obviously, here I’m talking about none other than the F-150. The Ford F-150 has pretty much become ubiquitous with the image of a pickup truck, not just in the United States, but also here in the United Arab Emirates. And this time around, YallaMotor has been handed the keys to the new Ford F-150 – specifically, the F150 Lariat EcoBoost 4x4.

Ford F-150 Lariat price and rivals in the UAE

The new Ford F-150 comes in a wide variety of variants, from the rather rudimentary but workable XL to the top-of-the-line and expensive Limited. At the lowest end within the new Ford F-150 range, you’re looking at a price tag of AED 181,445 -- on the higher end, you’ll have to shell out just under AED 300,000. As for the Lariat variant of this F-150, the prices range between AED 255,045 to AED 269,745. If you fancy one of these pickup trucks, then you should head over to an Al Tayer Motors dealership that’s dotted all over the UAE. Being a nation that loves its pickups, the new Ford F-150 has its fair share of rivals – ranging from the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra 1500 and RAM 1500.

Ford F-150 Lariat exterior design

The Ford F-150 has been one of the most macho-looking pickup trucks in the market for a while now. Over its fourteen generations (I know that’s a lot of iterations), the Ford F-150 has gone from being your bog-standard and utilitarian pickup truck to becoming one that offers luxury, a thoroughly redesigned and enhanced exterior, an advanced and safer T3 platform, plus a (supposedly) efficient yet powerful powertrain. Not only that, the new and fourteenth-generation Ford F-150 Lariat comes with its requisite cosmetic updates over its predecessor. In general, you can say that the new F-150 Lariat not only looks classy and upmarket, but also a pickup truck that projects modernity along with power.

The front-end of the new F-150 Lariat boasts a huge yet classy chrome grille with the Ford logo smack at the center. This comes in with a well-carved and stylish front, chrome lower apron that amalgamates LED running lights and foglights. Of course, there are also actual tow hooks situated in the front bumper, while the huge headlights come with their own accompanying LED running lights and turn-signal indicators. On top of these, the Lariat variant comes with suave-looking 20-inch chrome-finished alloy wheels, chrome-laden wing mirrors, chrome garnishing behind the front wheel arches, chrome door handles, and chrome trim on the running boards and along the windowlines.

Meanwhile, the rear of the new Ford F-150 Lariat features angular taillights with LED running lights, a large “F-150” logo engrained into the tailgate, a chrome-garnished rear bumper, a chrome-finished side rear exhaust pipe, and a dedicated trailer hitch receiver. Of course, the overall stance of this pickup is one that portrays a sense of machismo and power with a touch of upscale elegance. This being a Super Crew version of the new Ford F-150, the Lariat measures 5.88 meters in length, 2.12 meters in width and 1.96 meters in height. This is quite a large pickup truck, though it can be even larger depending on the trim level you get.

Ford F-150 Lariat interior design and feel

There was a time when the interiors of a pickup truck were nothing more than barebones, bland and utilitarian – those days are mostly gone. In the case of the new Ford F-150 Lariat, its interior looks nothing like its predecessors… It’s in equal measure modern, well-made and comfortable. For instance, the new F-150 Lariat comes with a fancy 12-inch “Digital Productivity Screen” (as Ford calls it) and a 12-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen infotainment system that not only looks pretty great but also supports Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The overall design and execution in this cabin are far from shoddy, if anything, it has come exude modernity and classiness – at least when it comes to this class of vehicle.

The seats of the new F-150 Lariat are understandably large and accommodating, while offering enough in the way of support for most trips within the urban jungle. The leather-clad steering wheel, metal accents on the dash & doors, a stitched-leather & metal-finished (but motorized) gear shifter, a large leather-clad front armrest, and textured knobs on the center console. And while the build quality has certainly gone up several notches in the new Ford F-150, there still exist many low-grade plastic bits in this cabin. There’s a lot of technology in here, far more than what earlier F-150’s had on offer. As for those at that back, the Super Crew configuration leaves a fairly-decent amount of space for at least two adults – maybe even three average-sized adults, along with nearly 1,500 liters of space in the bed for cargo.

Ford F-150 Lariat features and safety equipment

The new Ford F-150 Lariat comes featuring a twin-panel sunroof, Ford’s Intelligent Access with MyKey feature, a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 18 speakers, dual-zone climate control, heated & cooled front seats with memory, adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED automatic headlights, selectable drive modes (Normal, Sand, Mud/Rut, Deep Snow, Tow-Haul, Eco, and Sport), remote tailgate release, and an auto-dimming inner rearview mirror.

As expected, the new Ford F-150 Lariat sports safety features that include Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, Dynamic Brake Support, Post Collision Braking, Lane Keeping System with Lane Centering with Evasive Steer Assist, Roll Control Stability, 360-degree cameras, Dynamic Hitch Assist, Hill Start Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, ABS with EBD, and 8 airbags.

Ford F-150 Lariat powertrain and performance

The 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost petrol engine that powers the new Ford F-150 Lariat offers up 400hp and 678Nm of max torque. The powertrain is then combined with a modern 10-speed automatic gearbox that then sends the engine’s power to all four wheels via Ford’s Electronic-Shift-On-Fly four-wheel-drive system. Even though this pickup truck weighs around 2.3 tons, the F-150 can still get to 100 kmph in around 6.1 seconds and to a max velocity of 160 kmph.

As for its fuel economy, the new Ford F-150 Lariat (with the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine) should return around 8.4 L/100 km or 11.8 kpl. Considering how big and heavy this pickup truck is, that isn’t too bad a figure. Of course, if you want better fuel economy, you could consider the Hybrid variant of the new F-150.

Should you buy the Ford F-150 Lariat EcoBoost?

The new FordF-150 Lariat EcoBoost is definitely not a cheap buy, but it does make up for that by offering a convincing amount of luxury, appreciably-outstanding design, updated safety features, and a powerful yet comparably-effiecient V6 engine with enough grunt to suit your daily needs. So, if you find yourself comfortable with the idea of spending about 260,000-odd dirhams, then the new Ford F-150 Lariat EcoBoost is a pretty good bet.
