Honda Civic

The tenth generation of the Honda Civic is by far one of the most competitive and sorted cars in its segment, and made its first global outing back in 2015. For the new model, the Japanese automaker integrated a completely revised platform, making this C-segment sedan not only handle and ride better than before, but also perform better in crash tests. While the previous iterations of the Honda Civic were some of the most liked cars among buyers in the segment, leading rivals were beginning to pull out ahead. However, after the launch of the all-new Civic, the company has been able to reel in a lot more customers than ever before. In nations such as the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East, the new Honda Civic faces competition from the likes of the Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3, Nissan Sentra, and the ever-popular Toyota Corolla.

The new Honda Civic also boasts a far more attractive design than before, using some of Honda’s latest styling treatments. For example, the sharp and aggressive snout of the new Civic gets slender LED headlights, sporty gloss black “flying grille” on certain trims, and a well sculpted bumper with integrated faux air intake vents. The chic side profile of the Civic draws attention to its coupe-esque roofline, sharp body lines and contours, distinctly elongated door mirrors, and cool, two-tone alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear is characterized by the Civic’s prominent boomerang-style tail lights, sporty trunk spoiler (RS) and a chiseled bumper piece. As for its exterior dimensions, the new Honda Civic comes in at 4.575 meters in length, 1.755 meters in width, 1.435 meters in height, and has a wheelbase that measures 2.670 meters and a boot that has a volume of up to 480 liters.

Good looks alone won’t pass muster these days, especially when customers demand decent amount of firepower under the hood in their new C-segment sedan. So to address that, the new Honda Civic that’s sold in the UAE actually comes with a choice of three different powerplants -- each catering to particular group of buyers. However, regardless of which engine you go with, the new Civic can only be had with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and in front-wheel-drive format in the UAE. As for the engines, themselves, the two entry-level variants of the Civic come equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder mill that produces a fairly humble 123hp and 151Nm of maximum torque. This motor is perfect for those who wouldn’t mind sacrificing performance for better fuel economy - which with the 1.6 unit, is rated at a really impressive 5.4 L/100 km.

In terms of its performance, the variants of the Honda Civic are good for a naught to 100 km/h time of 11.6 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. Next up, there’s a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-popper that’s been tuned to develop 158hp and 187Nm of peak torque. This enables the Civic to scoot from a standstill to 100 km/h in less than 9 seconds, while also being able to achieve up to 6.9 L/100 km in a combined cycle. Meanwhile, top whack remains fixed at 200 km/h. However, those seeking some extra thrill from their Civic can upgrade to the range-topping RS version. In this feisty avatar, the Honda Civic comes paired to a 1.5-liter turbocharged VTEC four-banger that puts out a respectable 180hp at 6,000 rpm and 220Nm of pulling force between 1,700 to 5,500 rpm. It means that you can now go from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 8 seconds, and on to a maximum velocity of 210 km/h. Of course, mileage now drops to around 5.8 L/100 km -- that’s if you don’t push this motor too hard.
