Quick Review

If you’re after a flashy sports car, but you’re on a limited budget, then the 2012 Dodge Challenger will let you muscle up without making your wallet weep. On the outside, it’s a very good looking specimen, but it really does have the muscle to back up its good looks.

Under the hood of even the basic model, you’ll find a sporty V6, 3.6 liter engine which will keep you motoring. If you’re more interested in power than good looks and you’re able to invest a little more, the R/T trim, which is the next model up, will get you a mighty V.8, 5.7 liter engine. One drawback is that the exhaust is not the quietest in town.

The Dodge Challenger isn’t quite as pretty on the inside and some of the interior trim falls way short of being sophisticated. But to be fair, you don’t really buy a sports car for its luxury dashboard or fancy seats.

Another minor drawback, but one common with many sports cars, is that any rear seat passengers need to have Olympic level gymnastic abilities to cope with the Dodge Challenger's two doors.

From a safety perspective, even the basic model comes with anti-lock brakes, plenty of air bags and head restraints. However, you need to take plenty of care when reversing because the stocky roof columns at the back seriously restrict your vision.

All in all though, the Dodge Challenger gives you a lot of sports car for your money.

Some comparable alternatives include Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.
