Quick Review

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has no significant changes from the 2011 model year.

The SLS AMG is Mercedes-Benz's entry into the supercar segment. There aren't many vehicles that can hold a candle to the SLS' striking exterior, an update of the 1950s' 300SL. The coupe version even retains the iconic gull-wing doors from the classic 300SL.

The Lamborghini Gallardo also has an outstanding exterior, one that's pure 21st-century as opposed to the SLS' slightly retro charm, with an exciting wedge-shaped profile. The Gallardo also offers excellent performance, though visibility is poor compared to the SLS. You could also take a look at the Audi R8; it's less expensive (although this will hardly matter to the supercar buyer), while still delivering exotic good looks. The Audi doesn't quite have the classic profile of the SLS, however; it also has poor rearward visibility compared to the Mercedes and less cargo space. Getting in and out of the Audi is tricky, but that's true of the SLS, too. The Porsche 911 Turbo is a more convincing challenger: it approaches the SLS for exotic, iconic good looks and lavish interior comfort. The Porsche also offers superior performance and far better fuel economy.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a car for the super-luxury shopper who wants an inspiring sports car and is prepared to pay extra for high performance. The ride is extremely powerful with heavy and accurate steering (although watch out for occasional over steer).

The adjustable suspension can give you extra comfort or more spring a sport ride, as you please.
