Car Definitions

What does Collision Detection mean?

A collection of sensors that work together to monitor the distance between the vehicle and the one in front of it. This feature is usually bundled with Automatic Emergency Braking that jams the brakes if the driver does not respond in time to prevent a collision.

What does Oversteer mean?

Commonly associated with rear-wheel drive cars, oversteer is a driving characteristic wherein a car turns more sharply than intended, causing the rear to slide out more than the front.

What does Regenerative Braking mean?

A system employed in hybrid and battery electric vehicles that captures energy created during braking/deceleration and transfers it to the onboard battery. Energy stored in this battery is then used to power the vehicle at slow speeds reducing its reliance on the engine and making it more fuel efficient.

What does Rear Spoiler mean?

An aerodynamic device attached to a vehicles trunk lid that permits air flow over and under it, reducing lift and increasing stability at high speeds.

What does FWD (Front Wheel Drive) mean?

A vehicle that is propelled solely by its front wheels.
