As we know by now, the latest generation of the Chevrolet Captiva is based on the Chinese Baojun 530. While the Baojun 530 is mainly a brainchild of the SAIC Motor Corporation, the all-new Chevrolet Captiva is an adopted child that now has the green card and cannot wait to show it off. The first-generation Captiva started its life back in 2006 with GM Korea being instrumental in its genesis, but was then succeeded by the Chevrolet Equinox in many markets.

Of course, since the new Equinox is more expensive than the previous Captiva, Chevrolet Middle East needed a model to fill in the gap. This is where the 2024 Captiva comes into play – it combines the sharp crossover design language of modern-day SUVs, along with a contemporary interior & technology suite, and a more efficient turbo-petrol engine under the hood. Then again, this particular Captiva is as American as yoga. All that said, should the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva be on your shopping list?

Does the exterior styling of the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva ‘captivate’?

Compared to its more muscular-looking and softer-styled predecessor, the new Chevrolet Captiva’s exterior looks far sharper from some angles, at least. As can be expected with a badge shuffle operation, the 2024 Captiva doesn’t look too different from the Baojun 530 that it is based on. Once you are over that fact, you can pay attention to a few decent design aspects of this compact crossover SUV. However, do know that this won’t be the car that will blow your socks off.

The whole show starts at the front, where the grinning grille is home to the American brand’s golden bow-tie. This welcoming sight leads to the sleek LED running lights (that are quite bright), LED headlights in the bumper, and an animated sporty lower lip that juts out. The 18-inch alloy wheels are dressed in fancy dual-tone design, wheel arches that are highlighted by black cladding, shiny trim along the doors, black door pillars, and silver roof rails.

The backend of the new Captiva houses stylish two-tone taillights that blend into the tailgate pretty seamlessly, while the contoured roof-mounted spoiler adds to the modern appeal of this SUV. The rear bumper protrudes quite evidently, while encapsulating fake exhaust tips, and reversing lights. Also, while Chevrolet’s logo looks nice, the tiny rear wiper seems a bit out of place. Depending on your perception of style and design, you may or may not prefer the more ‘original’ design of the previous-gen Captiva.

How nice is the interior of the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva?

The light-beige-dominated yet dual-tone interior of the new Chevrolet Captiva looks fairly modern and comfortable. The glossy plastics and faux metal inserts, go quite well with the fake leather inserts and the twin digital displays up front. There are a few soft-touch materials in this cabin, but most of the items one will touch & feel are hard and scratchy. If you were hoping to find a lavish interior, there may be other options.

The 2024 Captiva is a 5+2-seater SUV, basically a lite version of a fully-fledged 7-seater. While the first two rows of seats are quite accommodating and comfortable, the same cannot be said for the last row. Unless you are a child, the third row of the new Captiva will be uncomfortable. The light theme gels well with the expansive panoramic sunroof and big windows means that the Captiva’s cabin feels pretty airy.

The cabin of the 2024 Captiva may not be the quietest or the most well-built, but there are enough technological upgrades over the old Captiva – making this an interior that many customers might appreciate. Having said that, will this be the cabin of your dreams? Maybe not, but it is certainly not a terrible place to be in.

The 2024 Chevrolet Captiva does come with a good set of features

One of the most prominent features on the inside of the new Chevrolet Captiva includes the 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display, which looks decent but is not of the highest quality in the segment. There’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 6-speaker audio system that integrates AUX, USB, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Then there is a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control, automatic climate control with rear aircon vents, and the aforementioned panoramic sunroof. There are also LED headlights, keyless entry with push-button start, and surround-view cameras.

How good is the safety features of the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva?

The all-new Chevrolet Captiva comes with safety equipment like Hill Start Assist (HSA), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX child-seat anchors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front & rear parking sensors, 6 airbags, and Electrical steering lock.

What is under the hood of the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva?

The 2024 Chevrolet Captiva is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which pumps out 149 hp and 255 Nm of torque. This powerplant is then coupled to a CVT automatic transmission, which then propels the new Captiva to a top speed of 180 km/h. When it comes to the fuel economy of this new Chevrolet crossover, it can achieve 9.2 L/100 km or 10.2 km/l.

Should you consider the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva?

The base variant of the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva in the UAE starts from AED 74,900, where it starts with the LS trim. Then there is the LT trim, which costs AED 78,300, while the top-end Premier trim costs AED 84,500. That said, the new Captiva is a crossover SUV that is a pretty good one, as long as you don’t expect the car to be incredible. Otherwise, the 2024 Chevrolet Captiva is not the best car in its class.
